That is a very loaded question. The short answer is “when your tank finishes cycling”. Many people jump into the aquarium hobby expecting to purchase a tank and all of a sudden have a vibrant reef ecosystem. The truth is that only bad things happen fast. First question for you is… is your tank established? By that we mean, has your tank fully cycled and been running successfully? From there, the question goes to whether or not you have the appropriate lighting. While a fish only marine aquarium does not have lighting requirements specific to the inhabitants, adding an anemone makes it so that you now must be aware of your lighting quality and quantity. Another important piece of information is that anemones need actinic lighting, it’s not just for cool blue looks. There are recommendations based on how large and how deep your aquarium is. Not all fish get along with all other fish. It is just the way it is… As an example, there are what are referred to as Community Fish and there are Aggressive Fish.
