I just started a new marine aquarium. When can I start adding fish?

That is a very loaded question. The short answer is “when your tank finishes cycling”. Many people jump into the aquarium hobby expecting to purchase a tank and all of a sudden have a vibrant reef ecosystem. The truth is that only bad things happen fast. With that in mind there are things you can do to help the cycling process along. For instance you can start your tank with CaribSea Live Sand. CaribSea Arag-Alive contains millions of bacteria per pound that your new marine environment needs to get started quickly. Another key factor in quickly starting a new marine aquarium is to use Live Rock.

Both CaribSea Arag-Alive and Live Rock are available directly from Coral Logic Aquariums. Logical solutions for salt water aquariums.

Can I add an anemone to my aqaurium?

First question for you is… is your tank established? By that we mean, has your tank fully cycled and been running successfully? From there, the question goes to whether or not you have the appropriate lighting. While a fish only marine aquarium does not have lighting requirements specific to the inhabitants, adding an anemone makes it so that you now must be aware of your lighting quality and quantity. Another important piece of information is that anemones need actinic lighting, it’s not just for cool blue looks. There are recommendations based on how large and how deep your aquarium is. Shoot us an e-mail or give us a call and we will be happy to talk to you about your aquarium and an appropriate lighting recommendation.

I really want this fish (insert fish name here), can I add to my tank?

Not all fish get along with all other fish. It is just the way it is… As an example, there are what are referred to as Community Fish and there are Aggressive Fish. Aggressive Fish are just that… aggressive. They have a tendency (not always) to harass or even attempt to eat less aggressive fish (in comparison to themselves). When in our store, we will be happy to make a new fish recommendation based on what inhabitants you already have in your marine aquarium.

When I perform water changes how much should I change?

A standard recommendation is that you change 20%-25% of your marine aquarium’s water on a monthly basis. Coral Logic Aquariums offers both pre-mixed salt water as well as RO water for those who prefer to do their own mixing. We also offer various brands of salt mix brands including Instant Ocean, Kent and Seachem.
